What is Our "Why"? Why does WWHW exist?
Power and wealth at all costs are the governing principles for the majority of U.S. leaders. As a result, both democracy and Earth are dying. The Republican Party no longer stands for the conservative values of “free trade, fiscal responsibility, personal character, respect for the law, or strong alliances,” (Thom Hartmann, The Last American President, 2025) but instead has succumbed to obsession with power no matter the costs. Intelligent, strategic Christian Nationalists “created the Moral Majority, a political creation . . . to co-opt evangelicals into a Republican power bloc.” (Jim Wallis, Bad Faith) “Their message: Republicans were the party of God and Democrats were the party of the devil.” (Bad Faith)

By the time Donald Trump ran for president, the “party that once claimed to be Lincoln's heir -- founded to oppose slavery's expansion, the push for Reconstruction, that under Teddy Roosevelt championed conservation, the estate tax, and checked corporate power —had already:
-
Embraced the Southern Strategy, deliberately courting white racial resentment [via President Nixon]
-
Turned dog whistles into bull horns in its rhetoric about crime, welfare, and immigration [via President Reagan]
-
Married billionaire donors with evangelical Christians and an unholy alliance of plutocracy and theocracy [via Reagan and Bush]
-
Transformed media from a source of shared facts into a propaganda machine [via both Presidents Bush].” (The Last American President)

An increasingly large number of elected officials are prioritizing the desires of corporations who fund their political campaigns over communities living now and into the future. Many of these corporations are causing natural resource degradation, rising temperatures, and increased extreme weather events globally. These realities are causing increased hunger, illness, housing instability, economic hardship, and more. The United States is largely responsible. Christian nationalists are largely responsible for the direction of the United States government. Without action to stop fascism, our planet will crumble and marginalized communities will continue to suffer the greatest harm. Faith-based voters need love and empathy to realize the wool over their eyes and then support and direction to vote differently.

The strength of starting in a place like St. Louis lies in its complexity, offering a rare blend of international influence and local conviction that is ready to be harnessed. Rather than seeing a collection of separate interests, we see a mosaic of power waiting for a common thread to bind it. By fostering a culture of collaboration across every zip code and background, we are building a foundation for sustainable change that starts here and resonates globally. WWHW feels called to work in community to take back our government from corporate control, help women reclaim their power, and mobilize women into social justice action as a form of radical love. We hope to add value to the existing ecosystem where communities of color, religious orders, non-profit organizations, and many churches have already been working for decades. We are humbly seeking to provide a space for women we know to reclaim their power and organize in the name of good governance, climate justice, and radical love.
